The tax deductible donations will be administered by the newly-formed Planters EMC Operation Round Up Foundation, a board of community leaders appointed by and independent of the Planters EMC Board of Directors. “The average person will donate six dollars a year, which isĪbout what they would pay for one hamburger meal,” he said, encouraging co-op members to forego that burger meal to help their neighbors in need.Īll Operation Round Up funds raised at Planters EMC will go to charitable organizations within its communities, according to Brinson who foresees funds supporting area citizens through organizations such as school groups, recreation centers, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, 4-H and FFA, Hospice and volunteer fire departments and other community-oriented organizations. “This program has done so much for others, and we want to do the same by investing in programs and projects that touch our communities.”Īt $6 annually, it’s a bargain, according to Brinson. “We’re implementing Operation Round Up because we’ve seen how it’s worked at other co-ops and how it’s benefited their communities,” said Planters EMC General Manager Matt Brinson. ![]() It may sound like small change, but if all 16,000 member accounts at Planters EMC participate in Round Up, there could be big results – a total of $96,000 per year to help local citizens in need through worthy community programs. ![]() Participating Planters EMC members will contribute an average of about 50 cents per account per month, or $6 per year. Successful at numerous electric co-ops throughout Georgia and the nation, Operation Round Up will allow Planters EMC members to “round up” their power bills to the next dollar and donate the difference to nonprofit community organizations.
